CPM Calculator
CPM (cost per mille) is the price of 1,000 ad impressions — the standard way display, video and social campaigns are priced. This calculator works in three directions: find the CPM from spend and impressions, the total cost from a CPM and impression goal, or the impressions a budget will buy at a given CPM. Pick a currency, enter positive numbers, and copy the result with the formula shown.

Why use CPM Calculator?
CPM turns raw ad spend into a comparable price per 1,000 impressions, so you can weigh placements and plan budgets on the same scale.
- Runs instantly in your browser — nothing to install, nothing uploaded.
- Completely free, with no account, no watermarks and no usage limits.
- Handles CPM = (Total Cost ÷ Impressions) × 1,000; Cost = (CPM × Impressions) ÷ 1,000; Impressions = (Total Cost ÷ CPM) × 1,000.
- Choose a mode: calculate CPM, total cost, or impressions.
- Works on any device — desktop, tablet and phone — and is fully keyboard accessible.
What it can do — and its limits
- Three modes: solve for CPM, campaign cost, or impressions.
- Currency selector with thousands separators in every result.
- Example-data, reset and copy-result buttons.
- Validates against blank, zero and negative inputs.
- Shows the exact formula with your numbers substituted in.
How to use CPM Calculator
- Choose a mode: calculate CPM, total cost, or impressions.
- Select your currency and enter the two known values (positive numbers only).
- Read the result with the substituted formula, then copy it.
- Switch modes to plan a budget or forecast the reach of a fixed spend.
Examples
- A $500 spend that delivered 250,000 impressions → CPM = $2.00.
- Planning 500,000 impressions at an $8 CPM → cost = $4,000.
- A $1,200 budget at a $6 CPM → 200,000 impressions.
Worked example
Input
A display campaign spent $500 and served 250,000 impressions.
Output
CPM = ($500 ÷ 250,000) × 1,000 = $2.00. To then buy 1,000,000 impressions at that CPM: Cost = ($2.00 × 1,000,000) ÷ 1,000 = $2,000.
The same two-input formula rearranges to solve for cost or impressions.
Formulas
- CPM = (Total Cost ÷ Impressions) × 1,000
- Cost = (CPM × Impressions) ÷ 1,000
- Impressions = (Total Cost ÷ CPM) × 1,000
CPM vs CPC, CPA and vCPM
These pricing models charge for different actions. CPM is best for awareness and reach; performance goals often favour CPC or CPA.
| Model | You pay per | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| CPM | 1,000 impressions (served) | Awareness and reach |
| vCPM | 1,000 viewable impressions | Reach you can verify was seen |
| CPC | Click | Traffic and direct response |
| CPA | Acquisition / conversion | Leads and sales |
Limitations
- CPM counts served impressions, not whether an ad was actually seen. Google measures viewable impressions separately as vCPM.
- A lower CPM is not automatically better — cheap impressions can mean lower-quality or less-viewable placements. Judge CPM alongside viewability, engagement and conversions.
- Rates vary widely by platform, format, audience, geography and season; use your own campaign data.
- This tool does no currency conversion — it simply formats results in the currency you choose.

Frequently asked questions
What does CPM mean?
CPM stands for cost per mille — the cost of 1,000 ad impressions. Google Ads defines CPM bidding as paying per 1,000 impressions.
How do I calculate CPM?
Divide total cost by impressions, then multiply by 1,000. For example, $500 over 250,000 impressions is a $2.00 CPM.
What is the difference between CPM and vCPM?
CPM charges per 1,000 served impressions; vCPM (viewable CPM) charges per 1,000 impressions that were actually viewable on screen, per Google’s viewability standard.
Is a lower CPM always better?
No. A cheaper CPM can come from lower-quality or less-viewable inventory. Compare CPM together with viewability, engagement and conversion rates.
How is CPM different from CPC and CPA?
CPM prices impressions, CPC prices clicks, and CPA prices acquisitions. Choose the model that matches your goal — awareness (CPM) versus traffic (CPC) or conversions (CPA).
