What is RDAP and how is it different from WHOIS?
RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol) is the modern, structured replacement for WHOIS. It returns clean JSON rather than free-form text, and in 2025 it became the authoritative source for gTLD registration data. This tool uses RDAP and presents the key fields as cards.
Why can’t I see the registrant’s name or email?
Registrant contact details are largely redacted under privacy rules (such as GDPR). RDAP typically exposes the registrar, dates, status, nameservers and DNSSEC rather than personal contact data.
Does every domain support RDAP?
Most gTLDs (.com, .net, .org and many others) do. Some country-code TLDs don’t yet offer RDAP, in which case the lookup may return no record.
Does this run in my browser?
No — the RDAP request is made from our server, then the summary is sent back to you.
